Weekly Activity - Day 7 ( Bonus Activity )

Bounce Heads

Imagine that you are on the Paralympic Committee and you have been asked to create one new sport to add to the competition for this year. Use your awesome imagination to design a brand new Paralympic sport. Please remember that some of the athletes will not be able to walk or run and others may be blind or deaf. On your blog, please write:

  1. The name of your sport,
  2. A brief description of how you play the sport, and
  3. Three rules for the sport

My Game:

The is game is that all the athletes get divided into 4 in each group. It's like volley but you use your head. The blind athletes will be guided by their partner who is not blind and can see. Your partner has to be from the same country.

Rules !!

1. You can not use hands to hit the ball.
2. You can use your forehead to hit the ball.
3. No drugs before game.

Weekly Activity - Day 7 ( Activity 2 )

Paralympic Fundraiser

Activity 2: It is very expensive for each of the Paralympic athletes to fly from New Zealand to Rio de Janeiro to compete.  Most athletes have to fundraiser in order to make the money that they need to go on the big trip. Recently, Harvey Norman announced that they will be helping to raise funds for the New Zealand Paralympic team. What could you do to help raise funds to support our amazing Paralympic athletes? On your blog, list 2 different ways in which you, your family or friends could raise money to support the athletes.
C:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\Paralympic logo Nz.jpg

My Idea:

1. I would fundraise pastry, sausage sizzle and sweets at school.

2. I would have a garage sale.

Weekly Activity - Day 7 ( Activity 1 )

Olympics

Activity 1: At the moment the most famous para-cycling team in New Zealand is comprised of two female athletes – Emma Foy and Laura Thompson. Emma is blind but Laura is not. Together they work as an amazing team. Imagine that you were asked to compete in a tandem cycling event and you had to choose one person to compete with. Who would it be? On your blog, tell us who you would compete with and why. If it was me, I would choose my son, Aronui because he’s pretty fast and very funny. He would make me laugh as we biked along and would be very supportive and encouraging! I know that I could trust him to be a good teammate. Who would you choose?

 Who I will choose:
If I would choose, I would pick my my Aunt because she is very sporty, also she is a very supportive and encouraging.

Weekly Activity - Day 6 (Bonus Activity)

Olympic Writing

Bonus: Imagine that you are sitting in the crowd at the opening ceremonies for the Rio Olympics this August. The ceremony has just started and all of the Olympic athletes are parading around the stadium in their uniforms when all of a sudden.... In your blog, write an ending to this short story. It should be approximately 10-20 sentences long.

My Writing :
The ceremony has just started and all of the Olympic athletes are parading around the stadium. They also had their best uniform on too. All of a sudden, one New Zealand athlete collapses while marching. Then the parade stopped, while two doctors try to see what happened. Shockingly the results came and they found out that he had not have much time to live. Then the doctors rushed quickly to their ambulance van and took the poor athlete. On their way they were chased by fast dogs.So they had to hurry even more to get away from the dogs. Then the doctor at the back checked the athletes heart rate dropped had dropped so they rushed even more. Soon they were almost at the hospital, so they went so fast that they crashed and the van flipped over. The doctor woke up and tried to get out but then he saw something leaking, then BOOM BOOM the van exploded. Suddenly it just turned out to be a dream for the athlete who died.

Weekly Activity- Day 6 (Activity 2)

Shaun Johnson

Activity 1: In the opening ceremony for the London Olympics there were a number of famous English people including the Queen, the Spice Girls, David Bowie, U2, the Rolling Stones and Paul McCartney. Imagine that we were going to host the Olympics here in New Zealand in 2024 and you were invited to be on the committee that decides who is invited to participate in the opening ceremonies. As a member of the group you must choose one of the following people to be in the opening ceremony: Richie McCaw (rugby player), Lorde (singer), Kane Williamson (cricket player), Maria Tutaia (netball player), John Key (prime minister of New Zealand) or Shaun Johnson (league player). On your blog, tell us who you think is the best person to choose and explain why you think that they are the best choice!

My Reason:

I chose Shaun Johnson because he is a great rugby league player and shows good sportsmanship. Also I think he is a confident speaker.

Weekly Activity- Day 6 (Activity 1)

New Zealand Team Uniform

Activity 1: For all Olympic opening and closing ceremonies, the athletes from each country must wear a special uniform. The uniforms change each year. Look at the 3 pictures posted below. They are pictures of the uniforms that our New Zealand Olympic teams wore in 2012, 2008 and 2004. For this activity, you are asked to rank the uniforms from best (#1) to worst (#3). On your blog post your rankings and provide a brief explanation of why you ranked the uniforms in that order.

C:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\2008 Beijing Olympics uniform.jpg

1#) I think this is the best uniform because their shirts suit the place they are at (China Beijing).
Also they all look very smart.

C:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\Athens Olympics uniform (2004).jpg

2#) I think that this is their second best uniform because the white on their shirts make them standout in the crowd.

C:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\2012 NZ Uniform.jpg

3#) I think this is their worst uniform because their uniform doesn't look very sporty and they look like receptionist.

Inspiration

Bonus Activity: Jesse Owens was a black American athlete who participated in the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, Germany. Weekly Activity- Day 5 (Activity 1)

Eddie The Eagle

Activity 1: Some Olympic athletes become famous not because they win but because they have an amazing attitude and great determination. They are sometimes called ‘underdogs.’ One of the most famous ‘underdogs’ in Olympic history was a man named Michael Edwards. He was a ski jumper from England who competed in the 1988 Olympic Games in Calgary, Canada. Although he came last in the event, he never gave up. Recently, a movie has been made about his life. It is called “Eddie the Eagle.” For this activity, watch the trailer for Eddie the Eagle and then post a summary of the movie on your blog. What is the movie about?

Imagine that you were alive in 1936 and you had the chance to interview her. On your blog, post five questions that you would like to ask the Olympic champion (if you had the chance to meet her!).

My Question:

1. How did you feel when you received your golden medal ?
2. Why did you join the Olympics again in 1948 ?
3. How did your parents react to you winning the gold medal ?
4. In 1936 before the Olympics, how hard did you train ?

It is very common for movie reviewers to use stars to indicate how much they liked a movie. A rating of * = very bad movie, ** = bad movie, *** = okay movie, **** = good movie, and ***** = very good movie. At the end of your critique, please provide a rating for the Be The Inspiration movie.

Water Polo

Weekly Activity- Day 2 ( Bonus Activity )

My Olympic Logo

It is time to get creative! For this bonus activity you are asked to design a simple logo for the next Summer Olympic Games. They will be held in Tokyo, Japan in 2020. The Olympic committee in Japan has already created four possible options for the logo (see below) but I think that you can create something even more interesting and attractive!

Activity 1: To create a logo I would suggest that you use the Design Mantic website. Click on the Design Mantic link. It will bring you to the homepage for the site. Enter ‘Tokyo 2020’ into the ‘Company Name’ box and select ‘Sport & Fitness’ from the drop down menu in the  ‘Industry’ box. From there you can create your own logo. When your logo is finished, copy and paste it onto your blog along with a short explanation of your design.

Here is my logo. The ball represents all the ball sport athletes play and the silver wings show how fast athletes are.

Weekly Activity-Day 2 (Activity 2)

Famous New Zealand Landmarks

Rio de Janeiro, the host of Olympic Games this year, is a huge, vibrant and dynamic city. Perhaps the most famous landmark in the city is a large statue of Jesus called ‘Christ the Redeemer’ that sits on top of a hill overlooking Rio.

Activity 2: New Zealand is also known for many famous landmarks, including the SkyTower and the Harbour Bridge. In your blog list 3 famous landmarks in New Zealand. Along with the name of each landmark provide a brief description of it. Where is the landmark located? In your opinion, why is it famous?

The Sky Tower:

The Sky Tower is in Auckland, New Zealand. It is 1,076 tall. The tower was built in 1994 and was opened in 1997.

My Opinion:

I think it is famous because it is the tallest building in New Zealand and because you can do bungee jumping at the tower.

One Tree Hill:

One Tree Hill is one of the tallest volcanic peaks in the city of Auckland. Known as the This Māungakiekie, it is also a sacred memorial ground for the Maori settlers.

My Opinion:

I think that One Tree Hill is a Landmark because how nice it is walking up the hill and that it is sacred to Maori people,

The Beehive:
This building is located in Wellington and New Zealand’s parliament building. It stands as the national symbol of the country.

My Opinion:

I think it is famous because it is a ten story building and it is a great place to visit.

Weekly Activity-Day 2 (Activity 1)

Tom & Vinicius

Each time that a city hosts a Summer Olympic Games they are asked to create their own unique mascot and logo. Here are the mascots from the Summer Olympics in London, England (2012) and in Sydney, Australia (2000).

Activity 1: The mascots for the upcoming Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro are Vinicius and Tom. They can be found on all of the advertisements for the Olympic Games and they have also been featured in a number of videos.

I am summarizing episode 2:

I think that episode 2 was about team work and that when you work as a team, things can be accomplished faster and easier.

Weekly Activity- Bonus Activity (Day 2)

C:\Users\rwil313\Desktop\No Girls Allowed Sign.jpg Weekly Activity

During the ancient Olympic Games, men were allowed to compete in the events but women were not. In fact, women were often forbidden from even watching the games. In your opinion, is this a fair rule? Why or why not? On your blog please tell us what you think about this interesting rule.

My Opinion:

I think the rule for Olympics was unfair for women because, they could not watch the game or participate and I think that the women would have done just as good as the men could.

Weekly Activity - Activity 2 (Day 1)

Milo Of Kroton

Activity 2:  In the ancient Olympic Games the winner of each event was called the Olympionic. Instead of a gold medal, the winner had a palm leaf placed in their hands and a crown placed on their head to show that they were the winner. Arguably one of the most famous Olympionics was a man named ‘Milo of Kroton’.

Facts:

Fact 1: Milo of Kroton was a victorious wrestler from the Great Greece city of Kroton.
Fact 2: Milo of Kroton was born in Krotone and died in Krotone.
Fact 3: He won the boys' wrestling and thereafter won five men's wrestling titles between 536 and 520 BCE.

Weekly Activity- Activity 1 (Day 1)

Boxing

Activity 1:Let’s imagine that you were alive 2792 years ago and invited to compete in the first ever ancient Olympic Games. Which of these events: running, wrestling, boxing, pankration, horse racing and pentathlon would you compete in? Click on the name of the sport and it will take you to a site that tells you about the sport.

Pentathlon – an event where athletes had to compete in five separate activities – running, long jump, discus, javelin and wrestling. Javelin is a sport where an athlete throws a long sword-like spear as far as they can. Discus is similar to javelin but, instead of throwing a spear, the athlete throws a flat disc.

My reason why I chose this: The reason why I chose this sport is because, I enjoy doing boxing, it's challenging and you also learn new skills.

My Funny Chracter

St Pius X Catholic School had a Costume Day, Costume Day is when you find your favourite character from your favourite book and dress up as them. I was excited because I wanted to come as Harry Potter. When the day came,  It turned out that I wore a fairy costume because I didn’t find any Harry Potter costumes. I wore the fairy costume because it was my only option and some of us who didn’t have costumes wore funny wigs, and fluffy skirts. It was really funny, because most of the younger students were laughing at me at the assembly. My costume was embarrassing and funny at the same time. I really enjoyed Costume Day.

My Trip To The Catherdral

On Friday 1 July, St Pius X Catholic school went on a school trip to the Cathedral in Auckland City, because this year is the year of mercy.
We all left together as a school on 2 busses after morning tea.
I was feeling very excited and hyped because it was my first time visiting a Cathedral.

Once we arrived we all got out of the bus and lined up outside. We were all waiting outside the Cathedral for Mrs Tui to come. As soon as Mrs Tui came room 7 had a quick practise before walking over to the door of mercy. Finally we walked into the Cathedral through the door of mercy. Once we got there we settled into our seats we waited awhile for mass to start.

As soon as father started mass there was a lot of people at the back seats.
Then father told us about the tall chair saying that only the bishop of the cathedral can only sit there.

Soon it was Holy Communion and that's when we were going to sing. During Holy Communion the people at the back went first because we were singing. When we finished our song we went up for Holy Communion.

After church father came and had a school photo together with us inside the church. After awhile we went to the hall and had our lunch. Soon the bus came and then it was time to go home.

I had a lot of fun at the Cathedral and my favourite part of our trip was when father told us a fact about the foundation rock that was held inside the church.
