  1. Hi Stanley,

It sounds like you and your family have a really special time together on Waitangi Day. That's awesome!

I also try to go somewhere special with my son, Aronui, and my partner, Andy. We love to swim so we sometimes go up north to a regional park called 'Tawharanui.' It has a series of beautiful beaches and a really nice walk though the bush (http://regionalparks.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/tawharanui).

The park is also a sanctuary for birds so there are dozens of unusual birds, including the Takahe, an indigenous New Zealand bird that can not fly. It is on the endangered species list in New Zealand because there are very few Takahe left in the country.

If you'd like to learn more about the Takahe, feel free to check out this link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Takah%C4%93

    Cheers,
    Rachel :)

P.S. I hope that you and your family have a wonderful time on Waitangi Day this year. Perhaps you can even visit Tawharanui. It takes about an hour to drive there from Auckland.
