Weekly Activity - Day 1 (Activity 1)

Japan

Activity 1
After you have read the quick facts about each place you must choose ONE country that you would like to ‘visit.’ On your blog post the name of the country and tell us why you have chosen to visit it. Please give, at least, two reasons for choosing the country.

My Reasons

  1. Hi Stanley it's Von,

What an astonishing reason..your part Japanese, that's super cool! Anyways I was wondering if you can speak the language of Japan? Loved how you put images to describe your reasons.

:) Great work and keep it up!

  2. Hey, Von

Sadly I do not, but when I grow up I'll try my best to take Japanese classes.

  3. Hi Stanley,

Wow! I didn't realise that you were part-Japanese. That is amazing! I'm certain that you will learn a lot about the country and discover some really cool facts about it as you go.

I had the pleasure of living in Japan about 10 years ago and I loved it! I lived in Nagano City for a year teaching English. It was incredible! I managed to get to a few children's sumo wrestling matches but I never made it to a professional bout. I would have loved to see it!

Have you ever watched a sumo wrestling match live on TV?

Keep up the great work, Stanley. I can't wait to read what you post next!

    Cheers,
    Rachel :)

  4. Thanks Rachael,
I am suprised that you lived in Japan for 10 years. I only watch sumo matches on youtube. What are the kid matches like?

    1. Hi Stanley! The kids matches are pretty interesting. They start training the children to become sumo wrestlers from a very young age so they are quite skilled by the time that they are in late primary/early intermediate school. The children have to attend regular 'sumo training' classes in order to develop their skills and they have to take it really seriously. I'm not sure if I would enjoy all of the training! Would you enjoy it? Do you think that you would make a good sumo wrestler?

      Cheers,
      Rachel

  5. Kia ora Stanley,

What an impressive first blog! Welcome to the Summer Learning Journey, we are so excited to blog with you over the next four weeks. My name is Dan, and I'm working alongside Rachel and Mark over the summer. I'm lucky enough to be able to read your blogs and I'll be leaving comments as I go. If you want to reply to my comments then please do! I'd love to know what you think, or if you have any questions, feel free to ask away.

I think it's awesome that you want to learn more about your cultural heritage. I'm half Hungarian, and I would love to visit Hungary one day to help me understand more about where my family comes from.

Your other two reasons for wanting to visit are very interesting. I've never heard about that electric city before, Akihabara. Why is it called the electric city?

Why is Hakuho Sho your favourite sumo wrestler? I think it is such a fascinating sport. Do you know the history behind sumo wrestling? Sumo wrestlers are treated like celebrities in Japan, so it would make for an interesting lifestyle!

This is a brilliant start to your Summer Learning Journey. I'm so pleased you chose Japan, it's such a unique part of the world. No doubt we'll both be learning a lot over the next four weeks!

    Keep it up :-)

    Dan.
