Tectonic plates

WALT: Describe a recent earthquake, it's effects and cause

Today we did a group reading about the Christchurch earthquake and my group learnt that it was a 6.3 magnitude earthquake and 185 people died. Earthquakes are caused by tectonic plate movements. We used sandwiches to model the plates and we spreaded jam under the bread to model as the mantel. I learnt when the tectonic plates rub against each other it starts a earthquake and the mantel rise in between and forms a new rock.

  1. Hi Stanley, what a great summary of what you learnt from the reading and also what the model was supposed to illustrate. Your post is even more clear because you've included an image of the practical you described. One thing I think you could improve is if you described some of the different boundaries, for example transform, convergent and divergent (which is like the one shown in your photo). Thanks for sharing your blog to me and always being honest in your communication. I appreciate it.
